Rohit Sharma thrashed Deccan's to give MI thrilling win

Mumbai Indians pulled out a thriller over Deccan Chargers

In the previous match at the venue, the Chargers were chasing 194. Today, they had first use of the pitch, but in their quest to match that score, lost early wickets. The Chargers held back their overseas batsmen to the middle order, which seemed like a contingency measure in case the top order failed. Munaf nipped out two early wickets, putting pressure on Daniel Christian and the captain Kumar Sangakkara who is himself short of runs.

Row over Sangakara dismissal against Mumbai Indians

Sangakkara's dismissal, however, came about following ugly scenes of the Mumbai players getting confrontational with the umpires. Munaf bowled a low full toss which Sangakkara shaped to drive, but got an inside edge which shaved the off stump and knocked off the bails. The wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik was standing up close and the ball deflected back to the stumps off his pads, causing confusion as to whether he was legitimately bowled in the first place.
A furious Harbhajan marched to the square leg umpire Johan Cloete, who was soon enveloped by Munaf and Karthik, leading to ugly scenes which put the MCC Spirit of Cricket pledge at the opening ceremony to distant memory. A clueless Sangakkara went across to have a word with the umpires but by then, it was as if the umpires were coerced into referring it. In theory, Sangakkara was legitimately out and the umpires should have had the presence of mind to consult.

Finally, a 5th wicket partnership of Cameron white and Daniel Christian of 41 runs in 33 balls made a fine support for Deccans to reach a defending total of 138 in 20 overs.

But, for Mumbai Indians, started in the same manner of last match against Pune with some great bowling display from World best Test bowler , Dale Steyn claiming both the openers with his great line and length.
Rohit Sharma, came into rescue for the Mumbai Indians and held his nerves till the end to make MI pull out a stunner against Deccan Charger.

The Chargers were still favourites with 18 to defend off the last over. Kumar Sangakkara had bowled out his best bowler, Dale Steyn, leaving the final task with Christian. The first ball was smashed by James Franklin past long-off for four; the second down the same region; the batsmen sneaked a bye off the third; the fourth was a high full toss slammed by Rohit Sharma over deep backward point. With five needed off two, the penultimate ball was forced to long-off and Rohit Sharma timed his dive just in time to survive a run-out appeal. Christian couldn't come up with anything special, gifting Rohit Sharma the most hittable delivery of the over, breaking the hearts of the home fans who saw their side slip to a second straight defeat.
